When I embarqued on fulfilling a missionary call to Africa as a young person it became apparent that I needed to be doing something other than being a secretary.  Then followed marriage, children and many travels around the globe.  Finally in 2002 we arrived in Pennsylvania and it became possible for me to take Fine Art courses at Messiah College.

These images represent the last 5 years of searching for a christian visual language while exploring topics related to my presious life overseas.  I have been captivated by the wild beauty of desert people and the hardship stories that are written on their faces.  Then there is a more liturgical approach where I have revisited fragments from a Renaiissance altarpiece.  I have enjoyed learning the traditional approach to Icon painting and hope to develop this concept into something more personal such as the portrait of Hannah.

IMAGES FROM THE LIFE OF CHRIST

Several essays are provided on this CD for groups to study the art individually or in groups. Included also is an Artwork Criticism worksheet to help guide a group's discussion and exploration of the artwork.

To help our congregation more fully experience Seeing the Savior: Images from the Life of Christ three creative projects have been designed for children. They include two art projects and one scavenger hunt for symbols. These can be used in Sunday Schools and come with instructions and lists of materials needed for the project.

From the Annunciation to his Second Coming,

35 insightful and colorful interpretations of the Birth, Ministry, Passion, Ascension, and Return of the Lord are masterfully portrayed by 13 artists from a variety of artistic and ethnic backgrounds. Among those represented in this show are:

Laura James, New York artist of Antiguan heritage; Viera Hlonikova, from Slovakia; Rudolph Bostic, an African American Outsider Artist from Savannah, Georgia; Sadao Watanabe from Japan; Anne Brink, a Minnesota fiber artist; Jim Janknegt, from Texas; and several well known CIVA artists such as Edward Knippers, Bruce Herman, Tanja Butler, Nancy Goes, Wayne Forte, John August Swanson and Joan Bohlig.
