prayer ministries
Prayer Meeting
The Lord gives us a great opportunity when He invites us to, “Call unto me and I will answer you!” (Jer. 33:3). We certainly have many areas in our lives, church, community, nation, and world in which we need God’s help. In what areas would you like the Lord to answer you about? Let’s not waste this great privilege! Join us in prayer at any or all of our prayer meetings:
  • Tuesdays at 12:00 p.m. Prayer Group in the library
  • Wednesdays at 5:45 p.m. Prayer Meeting in Room A-1
Grandmothers in Prayer
Each month a group of grandmothers from our church meet together to pray for our grandchildren. We use a study book to focus on specific areas of grandparenting as well as to encourage us in our own spiritual growth. Some of our grandchildren live nearby, and some live far away; some are very young and others are adults. It doesn’t matter how far away they live, or what their ages are, we uphold them in our prayers. Our group meets on the fourth Thursday of each month in the church parlor (A4) at 9:30 a.m. We welcome all grandmothers who would like to meet for a time of sharing and group prayer. For further information contact Anita Hare (790-0603).

Abundant Life Class Room C18
Matthew: Following Jesus Messiah
The Gospel of Matthew equips Christians to understand and obey Jesus' teachings. In the Abundant Life class, we employ a discussion-based format, encouraging participants to interact with Matthew and each other as we strive to determine the relevance of Jesus' teachings for our lives today. All are welcome.

Class Coordinator: Lynne Cosby
Teacher: Michael Cosby, Professor of New Testament at Messiah College

Discipleship Class . . . . . . C7

Disturbing Divine Behavior: Troubling Old Testament Images of God

God’s behavior in the Old Testament often makes readers of the Bible very uncomfortable. Such behavior raises troubling questions about the character of God. We will explore this issue by looking at selected portions of Eric Seibert’s book Disturbing Divine Behavior: Troubling Old Testament Images of God (Fortress Press, 2009) and discuss ways in which to deal with them in theologically responsible ways (first six weeks).

For the remainder of the term, we will engage in discussions based on the writings of Greg Boyd, theologian and well-known author.

Teachers: Eric Seibert (Jan. 3 – Feb. 7),
Randy Basinger (Feb. 21 – May 30)
Facilitators: Ken and Yvonne Martin

Fellowship Class . . . . . . C8-10
Simply Scripture: The Gospel of Mark
The Gospel of Mark may be the shortest of the four Gospels, but what it lacks in length is made up in its action-packed recounting of Jesus’ ministry and miracles. Join us in this scriptural study as we explore the Son of Man from his servanthood to his ultimate sacrifice for us all. (For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”— Mark 10:45) The class is multi-generational with a relaxed, interactive format. All are welcome.

Class Coordinator: Patti Hess
Teachers: Geoff Isley and Richard Roberson

College & Young Adults Class . . . . . C9
UnChristian: What a New Generation Really Thinks about Christianity

Beginning in January the College and Young Adult Class will be studying UnChristian: What a New Generation Really Thinks about Christianity, written by David Kinnaman and Gabe Lyons. The authors delve into the image of Christianity held by many people in America. In particular, they utilize extensive interviews and research to build a picture of how Christianity is perceived particularly among younger adults. The goal is to understand how we might learn to “live wisely among those who are not Christians” so we might better represent Jesus to our friends, neighbors, and the surrounding culture.

Class facilitators: Ron & Barb Burwell
Teachers: Ron Burwell, Dave Warren

Philathean Class . . . . . . . A1
For many years the Wesleyan Study Guide curriculum has guided us in our study of Scripture. In January and February we will be continuing our study of the Gospel of Matthew. During March, April and May, we will be studying the Book of James. And during June, July and August, the study will be from the Books of 1 & 2 Samuel; 1 & 2 Kings and 1 & 2 Chronicles. All are welcome to join us.
