our quiz team

Since we have not had a quiz team in the past few years we are starting out fresh this year with a new squad, considered "J.V." for conference quizzing purposes, but our team is ready to compete. Practicing every Sunday afternoon before youth group this group of dedicated young men and coaches are studying Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians and Philemon. A mix of quick reflexes off the buzzers, memory like a steel trap, and some team strategy makes for an exciting quiz match against another church's team. Accomplished coaching is being provided by Coaches Ed Asbury and Tori Sider, both experienced quizzers in their own teen years. We really appreciate their dedication and volunteering their time in this great ministry.

The ultimate goal for this team will be to compete for the opportunity to represent the Susquehanna conference at General Conference in Canada this summer. The team is already being encouraged to get their passports in plenty of time.

The Snowflake Bible Quiz Tournament in Hershey, was where we competed with Bible Quizzers from all over the midstate. The rules are slightly different, but the competition is real. We were in the novice division ( since this is out first year in a long time) but we played well, and took second place! Micah Isley received a trophy for being in the top 6 individual scores.

2008 Susquehanna Regional Conference Finals
On May 31, 2008 the quiz teams from Susquehanna Conference came together at Cedar Grove BIC to compete for the opportunity to advance to General Conference Finals.  After a long year of studying, practicing, and competing the stage was finally set for a dramatic conclusion for all but one of our quiz teams.  Participating this year were teams from the Carlisle, Dillsburg, and Grantham Churches.

After a full morning of round robin quizzing the Carlisle team came out on top clinching the first seat in the afternoon double elimination play-off bracket and earning a first round bye.  Dillsburg coasted into the second spot leaving Grantham  finishing in third.

The afternoon however, was different story for the Grantham team.  Grantham managed to slide by Dillsburg in the first quiz only to lose to Carlisle in the second.  At this point both Grantham and Dillsburg had one loss and both were facing elimination.  After a strong performance in this third quiz by Zachary Felix and Micah Isley Grantham moved on after besting a solid performance by the Dillsburg team.  Riding this momentum Grantham crushed the experienced Carlisle team in fourth quiz setting the stage for an intense final match-up.  Stakes were high as the winner of this quiz would be headed to Toronto.  After a very close match it all came down to the last question!  Both teams were tied with 50 points each!  The rest is history and Grantham pulled through with a victory if not just by the skin of their teeth!

We are very proud of our quizzers and ecstatic that they will have the opportunity to represent our church and the Susquehanna Conference at General Conference this summer!  They have done very well this year and this is even considering the fact that they are all rookie quizzers!  We give glory to God for he has blessed us beyond what we deserve!
