Email From the Pastor

Hello Brothers & Sisters,

This past Sunday was Missions Sunday 2016: Christ for a Post-Christian World. It was a joy having Melissa Shumaker (missionary to Spain) and Jonathan Lloyd (Director of BIC US World Missions) with us. If you missed Jonathan’s message, you can now listen to Mission Opportunities for a Post-Christian America and view his informative slides at our website.

Thank you for your generous support of our ingathering offering. Collectively, we gave $8,419.10 towards the goal of $10,000! We will continue collecting towards this goal for the next few weeks, so there is still time to support our missionaries and help us reach our goal. Special envelopes for Missions Sunday are still available in the church office and using one of those is the best way to ensure your gift gets included in this offering.

Did you get your Congregational Council booklet on Sunday? You may have noticed that it was missing a page of content. We’re sorry about that. The correct content for page 29 is attached here for you to insert into your copy. We will also have a supply printed here at the church if you would like to collect one Wednesday evening or next Sunday.

If you would prefer to exchange your booklet for a correct one, please see Dan or Bethany in the church office. For those who did not collect their booklets yet, we will have corrected booklets in your church mailbox and in the church office by Wednesday evening.

Congregational Council is set for Sunday, November 6 at 6:30 pm in the sanctuary. Remember that we will be having a Pre-Council meeting this coming Monday, October 31 at 7:00 pm. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions about the budget. It also allows you some time to process things you’ve heard before voting the following Sunday evening.

I hope you will plan to be at this annual meeting. I will be sharing some vision for the church that is intended to bring clarity to what is being presented in the budget and staffing plan for 2017. Budgets and bodies (new staff & members) make little sense for a church that has no vision for where she is going. I believe we have discovered some of that vision and I’d like to share it with you.

There has been a great deal of work that has gone in to preparing for Council this year. Your prayers are appreciated as we reflect on where we’ve been and where we feel that God is leading the Grantham Church in the year ahead.

What can you pray for specifically? Please pray for the church staff and board as we prepare to share with you. We have been living with this for many months. Pray that in our short time together we can communicate well and reflect accurately how we see God at work. Pray that we would all sense how God has been moving among us and where his Spirit is leading us in the future.

This Sunday we return to our Aliens & Exiles series with “The Gospel in Post-Christian Context” (7 of 9). I hope to see you in worship as we consider the Apostle Paul’s life and his calling to proclaim the good news to those who don’t know Messiah Jesus. How do we live and proclaim the good news in a post-Christian world? I’ll be addressing that and more in the sermon on Sunday.

Finally, we have now made it easier for folks to listen to the sermons at our wonderful church. You can subscribe via iTunes to the Grantham Church Podcast and listen on the go for free! If you have iTunes, I encourage you to take a few seconds and subscribe. Help us out by giving us a positive customer rating. If you have a few minutes, please write us a review. Thanks!

Have a blessed week!

Grace & Peace,
Pastor David
