The Church: The Masterpiece of God The church takes a lot of “hits” these days, some of them earned. Yet the church, for all of its bumps and bruises, continues to serve as the body of Christ in our broken and needy world. No book in the New Testament presents a vision of the church as God intends it to be more clearly than the letter to the Ephesians. In this letter, Paul both explains the role of the church in God’s eternal plan (chs. 1-3) as well as challenges the church to live out its divine calling in an ever-changing world (chs. 4-6). The church, Paul contends, is a new and undivided community rooted in grace and peace. It is, in fact, the “Masterpiece of God” (3:10). During the coming months, we will be working through the book of Ephesians together as a congregation. As we do, we will seek to discern what God is calling the Grantham Church to be and do in the years ahead. Be sure to read along. Use the discussion questions included each week in the bulletin in your small groups, Sunday School classes and family worship times. And pray. Pray that God will guide us into new areas of devotion and service.
