Email From the Pastor

Hello Brothers & Sisters,

I hope this letter finds you living in love toward others and enjoying the peace that God gives through Christ.

This past Sunday we set aside some time to show appreciation to all of our volunteers at Grantham Church. It was a joy for the staff to serve you some delicious BBQ and ice cream before thanking all of you who serve in various ministries of the church. Thank you for letting us serve you, and thanks again for all that you do to serve Christ and the Kingdom through our congregation.

If you missed the sermon, I encourage you to listen to me share about the purpose of church staff and volunteers, and what it looks like to serve others in the way of Jesus. You can listen to Service with a Smile: Serving in the Jesus Way on our website or via iTunes. Please take the time to listen if you weren’t able to be in worship because you were ministering to our children.

As you think back on the message, it is my prayer that God will help give us clarity as to how we function together as a church. We are all on the same team working for the same Lord. We need each other and the gifts we each bring. As Paul said, we belong to one another. I want to encourage us to reflect that in the way we relate to each other and serve together to further Christ’s mission among us. As the Scriptures say, may our conversations be full of grace and seasoned with salt as we do this work together (Col 4:6).

I’m reminded of the lyrics to the song we sang together on Maundy Thursday:

We will work with each other, we will work side by side
We will work with each other, we will work side by side
And we'll guard each one’s dignity and save each one's pride
And they'll know we are Christians by our love, by our love
Yeah, they'll know we are Christians by our love.

Thank you for serving in this way and being a church that is known for her love.

Have you signed up for Service Day this coming Sunday? There are still a few slots open if you’d like to join us in serving out in the community this weekend. You can sign up by contacting the church office at 717-766-0531 or for more details. Remember that we will be meeting on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. for a brief commissioning service before going to our projects. Also, we will be taking up our regular Sunday offering for those who would like to give during that time.

There will be no Learning Communities at 9:00 am or Worship Service at 10:30 am. I look forward to serving alongside you as we worship through service to our neighbors.

Finally, I’d like to ask that you begin praying for our May sermon series, Jesus Heals. Over the last month or so I have felt a strong leading of the Spirit to highlight how Jesus was and is a healer, and to walk us through a variety of episodes of Jesus’ ability to heal all manner of wounds and afflictions. I believe God wants to heal all of us in some way or another, and I think we have an enemy that doesn’t like it. Would you begin to think and pray about what in your life needs the healing touch of Jesus? Would you join me in opening up our hearts to his healing power?

Stay tuned. I will be sharing more about the upcoming series in next week’s letter. Have a blessed week as you learn to follow Jesus even when it’s hard. His grace and peace are available for all who will take hold of the abundant life he offers through his Spirit. Thank you, God!

Grace & Peace,

Pastor David
