Hello Brothers & Sisters,
It’s starting to heat up outside. It’s also heating up at Grantham Church, especially this week!
Yesterday we had over 160 kids on our first day of Vacation Bible School. We are grateful to have this opportunity to show and speak God’s love into the lives of so many children. Thank you to all the parents who have brought their children, and thanks to those of you who have volunteered and are making it possible for us to minister to a great group of young heroes.
This past Sunday we began a 3-week sermon series called, Train ‘Em Up: Raising Children to Love Jesus & the Church. I preached a sermon entitled, Let the Children Come (1 of 3). If you missed the service, you can listen to the message online at our website or at our Grantham Church Podcast via iTunes. Small group discussion questions are available as well.
In the first message of the series, I invited us to hear Jesus saying that his disciples must become like little children if they want to be great in the Kingdom (Matthew 18:1-5). We saw how Jesus welcomed children and calls for us to do the same (Matthew 19:13-14).
What does all of this mean? What does it look like lived out in our homes and in our church? I addressed this in the sermon on Sunday.
This Sunday I’ll be talking about the biblical precedent for teaching faith to our children and how we can best set them up to encounter Jesus, love him, and see the church as his beautiful bride. This Sunday is not only Father’s Day, but it is Family Sunday where we celebrate what God has done through VBS.
This means we will probably see some new faces and families. I want to encourage you to be present and be extra vigilant in reaching out to visitors in worship. We have a very loving congregation, so I’m hopeful that some people may find a new church home this Sunday with your help.
Here are a few reminders about important information and upcoming Sunday events this summer:
June 25 – Appreciation Luncheon for Doug Curry (Interim Worship Arts Pastor) after the service
July 9 – Dave Perry’s installation service; luncheon for our new Worship Arts Pastor following the service
July 16 – Dave Perry’s first Sunday leading worship
August 13 – Todd Allen speaking in worship service (more details to come)
Summertime brings a change of pace and presents us with an opportunity to go on mission trips, vacations, and make some special memories with loved ones. These things are a blessing from God. I hope that you will take extra time to be with your families, but also find ways to remain connected to your church family. God continues to move in our congregation in this season of the year.
As I stated in the recent edition of Connections, may we be intentional in keeping up with the momentum of the Holy Spirit and his work among us. And may God continue to bless Grantham Church.
See you Sunday!
Grace & Peace,
P.S. I believe we will soon have some exciting news to share with you about the Youth & Young Adult Pastor search process. Stay tuned!
