Hello Brothers & Sisters,
What a beautiful day! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and there is a nice breeze outside. And we just had a fawn come up to the doors of the church.
I hope you’re all enjoying your summer. If you missed the worship service on Sunday, or you had to leave early, you missed a big announcement. After only a few short months of searching, God has provided what we believe to be a real gift and a blessing from him on behalf of our church. Our Youth Commission has called Matt Bushoven to be the new Youth & Young Adult Pastor!
Who is Matt Bushoven? Matt is a recent graduate of Messiah College and comes highly recommended by Stephen Gallaher, his mentor and associate professor of Christian Ministries at Messiah. Matt has served in various churches and contexts during his time at Messiah. Most recently, he worked as an assistant to the youth pastor at Camp Hill UMC. Matt has a clear call to youth ministry and has an ability to connect with a variety of students. With his fresh connections to Messiah, he will also be able to give direction to developing a college and young adult ministry.
I had a lengthy personal meeting with Matt last month. The Youth Commission did the same. We think you will find Matt to be energetic, thoughtful, teachable, and passionate about pastoring our youth. He is committed to our core values and he is looking forward to helping us build a thriving youth ministry. We’re confident that Matt will help bring stability and momentum to our youth program for years to come.
Matt will begin work on Monday, August 14. His first Sunday will be August 20. Please be in prayer for Matt over the summer and during his transition.
In the meantime, you can connect with him on Facebook.
Also, if you missed the sermon this past Sunday, you can now listen to Get Jesus Inside Your Children (2 of 3) on our website or via our podcast via iTunes.
In this last message, I addressed the importance of teaching our children about our faith and inviting them into the story of God. This Sunday we will bring our Train ‘Em Up series to a close with a message entitled, They’re Watching You (3 of 3). I’ll be talking about how our actions speak louder than our words. And I’ll be encouraging us to let our children see our passion for Jesus and his Kingdom mission. This is the greatest thing we can do to ensure that we’re raising children to love Jesus and the church. I hope you will join us for worship in the sanctuary at 10:30 am. We will be taking communion after the sermon.
I’d also like to invite you to stay after the service for lunch in the fellowship hall. We will be showing our appreciation for Douglas Curry, our Interim Worship Arts Pastor. Doug has faithfully led us in worship over this past year and he has been a tremendous help in bringing Dave Perry, our new full-time Worship Arts Pastor. We want to express our love and thanks to Doug this Sunday. Therefore, we will be allowing time for you to share your words of appreciation after the meal. Please join us for this special time in the life of our congregation.
We do ask that parents would please keep their children at the table with them for this event. As many of you know, Doug and Heidi’s son Sam has very sensitive hearing, so please be mindful of this if you and your family are planning to attend the luncheon. Thank you for helping in this way. We would like the entire Curry family to share in this joyous occasion.
Finally, some of you have been asking if I’m going to take a break in the near future. Yes, I will be taking a vacation. My family will leave for Texas on Tuesday, June 27 and we will return in time for Dave Perry’s installation service on Sunday, July 9. Lynda Gephart, a former youth pastor at Grantham Church, will be preaching in my absence on Sunday, July 2.
We appreciate your prayers for safe travel and much-needed rest. It has been an amazing first year at Grantham Church. Thank you for being you, and for loving me and my family.
May God continue to bless the Grantham Church.
Grace & Peace,
P.S. Please continue to be in prayer for Dan and Noah Bisbee as they are serving in Kenya for two weeks. Also, please pray for Melissa Shumaker and Carissa Weaver. Melissa is in Spain for a few weeks as she helps with our missionaries there and discerns her next steps in ministry. Carissa is serving in Zimbabwe for the summer. Pray that God uses all of them for his glory and the furtherance of the Kingdom.
