Email From the Pastor

Hello Brothers & Sisters,

It’s nice to see the sun shining! I hope you’re able to get outside and enjoy the weather today.

I want to give you a few updates that you might find helpful. First, we had our monthly church board meeting last night. We began our meeting by talking about our church culture. What do we value? What do we do well? What is unique about Grantham Church? It was a lengthy discussion, but I’ll sum it up by saying that…

we recognize we’re an intergenerational congregation that has a heart to serve our neighbors and worship alongside other people who may not agree on everything, while also wanting to remain committed to our core values. We care deeply about making disciples of the college and of the community

So, how do we do these things better as we own them and are intentional in creating a healthy church culture that leads to continued growth and vitality? That is something we will continue to explore together. We ended our time last night with a discussion about our current sound, video, and lighting needs in the sanctuary, which we all agree is in serious need of updating. And since we believe in the power of the public space and see the value in doing convergent worship well, we want to ask that you pray for us as we discern how to address these concerns in the near future. We need God’s guidance and provision so we can keep up with what he’s doing among us.

Also, I wanted to let you know that the Associate Pastor Search Team has met twice now. It has been such a blessing to meet with this group of men and women. As I’ve said before, the Spirit is evident in our meetings as we all sense God leading us forward with certain candidates in this process. In case you’re wondering, here is the process for the search:

  1. Review resumes, discern top candidates
  2. Narrow down search to top 2-3, confirm their interest, and set up a video call
  3. Invite top candidate to visit Grantham on a weekend (meet with team, staff & board)
  4. Hire and announce this spring; start July 1

At the moment, we’re still in step one, but we’re making progress. Thank you for your prayers as we seek to fill this important role in our church.

If you missed the service this past Sunday, we continued our Lenten series, 40 Days in the Desert, with a message entitled, It’s Not About You (2 of 6). Remember that you have the option to listen or watch the sermons online at our website, and access several worship resources (including the small group discussion questions), or just listen on the go through the Grantham Church Podcast via iTunes. This Sunday we will be looking at the next temptation that Christ encounters in the wilderness, and see how we can develop a courageous faith, just as he did in the face of the enemy. I hope you will join us for corporate worship this Sunday at 10:30 am.

May God continue to bless Grantham Church as we seek to deepen our faith and expand Christ’s influence where he has placed us in the world.

Grace & Peace,

Pastor David

P.S. We will soon begin posting the church board minutes to a secure page on the church website. Thank you for your patience!
