Scandalous Grace

Sermon Title: Scandalous Grace
Scripture Reading: Romans 2:4; 6:1-4; Ephesians 2:1-10; 3:1-12; Galatians 6:14-15

Nobody understood grace better than the Apostle Paul. He was a strict, law-abiding Pharisee who persecuted Christians before he met Jesus on the road to Damascus. But once he encountered the risen Jesus, Paul was changed and then given a revelation of how God wanted to pour out his grace on the Gentiles. And what's even more shocking, God wanted to use Paul to extend this grace to everyone. In Scandalous Grace, Pastor David shares how Christ calls the church to accept people where they are and invite them to encounter the transforming power of God's love.

Jesus is the Son sent by the Father. The divine Logos (Word) became flesh and moved into the neighborhood. In Christ we see the missional God seeking out those who are broken and lost, those who recognize their need to be healed and reconciled to God. In Missional Jesus (2 of 6), Pastor David invites us to recommit ourselves to Jesus and his risky way of crossing borders and boundaries.

It's so easy for us to assume we know why people do what they do and then be quick to judge others or treat them unfairly. But Jesus said to take the log out of your own eye before trying to remove the speck out of someone else's eye. What does Jesus mean? Listen as our guest speaker, Bruce Webb, shares his insights and personal stories into how he is learning to treat others in a way that makes for peace and builds healthy relationships.

The Freedom of Forgiveness

Sermon Title: The Freedom of Forgiveness
Scripture Reading: Matt 18:21-35; Lk 6:36-38; Col 3:12-14

Jesus healed people and forgave their sins. His own people scoffed and said, “Only God can forgive sins!” While it’s true that God is the ultimate judge who pardons, and Jesus was and is God in the flesh, he calls those of us who are created in his image to imitate our merciful God by forgiving the sins of others who have wronged us. As disciples of Jesus, our own spiritual and physical health is at stake, as well as the health of the church, if we don't forgive others.

In The Freedom of Forgiveness, Pastor David challenges us to consider where we might be harboring bitterness and then encourages us to come into the freedom that flows from forgiveness.
