The final images of light recorded in the Bible appear in the eschatological visions of the new age in the book of Revelation. A look into God’s throne room reveals that he is pure light. And at the end of this apocalyptic vision of the future, we are told that darkness will come to an end and that night will be no more, for the bright brilliance of God’s glory will give light to the new world. In The End of Night (4 of 4), Pastor David concludes our series with a message of hope for the future.

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 60:1-3; Matthew 5:13-16; Ephesians 5:8; 1 Peter 2:9

The light of Christ comes not only to drive out the darkness in our souls, but also to illuminate and empower God’s gathered people, the church. Christ wants to draw the world to himself through the light-bearing work of his faithful followers. In The Community of Light (3 of 4), Pastor David invites us to consider how Jesus envisioned his church as the light of the world, and how local churches, including Grantham Church, are called to be a home and a beacon for the dawning of the light.

Sermon Series: Patterns of Light | Advent 2017
Sermon Title: Stained Glass Souls
Scripture Reading: Psalm 51:17; John 8:12; 2 Corinthians 4:6

Jesus said that he came to fill our hearts with his light. He wants us to let that light shine out of the broken pieces of our lives. Throughout the biblical story, we see that God is in the business of using broken things to create something new. Like sunlight shining through stained glass, God’s holy light comes to us in Advent to illuminate the beauty of his mercy and grace in our lives. In Stained Glass Souls (2 of 4), Pastor David encourages us to let the light of Christ shine through our brokenness.

Patterns of Light (1 of 4)

Sermon Series: Patterns of Light | Advent 2017
Sermon Title: The Coming of Light
Scripture Reading: Genesis 1:3-4; Isaiah 9:2; John 1:1-14; 2 Corinthians 4:6

Patterns of Light.jpg

According to the Bible, God’s first act of creation was light bursting forth in the darkness. And when God separated light from darkness, this wasn’t just a way of describing what happened in the physical world. It also said something about the cosmic struggle between good and evil—a central motif in the New Testament. In The Coming of Light (1 of 4), Pastor David invites us to see the advent of Jesus as the dawning of new creation, where the life of Christ becomes a light to all humanity.
