Jesus said that he is the only begotten Son sent by the Father. He also said that he alone shows us what the Father is really like and the way to know God. While the entire Bible (including Jesus) uses feminine and maternal metaphors to describe God, Jesus revealed a deep theological reality when he chose to primarily refer to God as Father. And not only did he use "Abba" as an affectionate and authoritative name for God, he taught his followers to relate to God this way. Why is that? In Our Father in Heaven, Pastor David invites us to know God as the perfect heavenly Father who loves us.

Cultivating & Letting Go (5 of 6)

Sermon Series: Cultivating & Letting Go | Lent 2019
Sermon Title:
Cultivating Kinship
Scripture Reading: Luke 15:1-3a, 11b-32

Lent 2019 - series graphic.jpg

Luke 15 begins with two crowds of people: one drawing near to Jesus and the other grumbling.  The differences between these two groups appear, at first glance, to be insurmountable.  Jesus responds to the crowd with a series of parables, culminating with the Parable of the Prodigal Son and the Older Brother. On the fifth Sunday of Lent, Pastor Kelly invites us to let go of the lies that keep us separated from each other and to live into the good news of Jesus Christ, to move beyond tolerance and acceptance to a radical new posture: kinship.
